ruling have been made public...but, what the hey, we can ask... Mary

rules etc.....let's come on out and see how she deals with "BIG
BROTHER" and keeps us out of the "soup"

State-----(mentor and fellow Hall of Famer Joe Lanning was in the room) and Ron credited him with much of his (ron's) success. Joined by his wife and his cousin Ron could not say enough about the good deeds of the Club....going back, way back when he was coaching in L.B. Middle (then Junior) and High Schools. MARCUS TURNER FROM CABRILLO ADDRESSES THE CLUB:
What a terrific meeting we had last week with two great speakers....Marcus Turner, former Jordan High footballer, U.C.L.A. and 7-year veteran of the N.F.L. brought us up to speed as to the trials and efforts he's experienced as the Head Football Coach of the Cabrillo Jaguars.......Coach Turner, who's 7 KIDS...!!!! keep him very, very busy was a bundle of energy and enthusiasm...his first year at the helm saw his charges go zippo....0 for the league.......that's changed this year as he's already notched a victory....Coach Turner spoke of the school, the parents, the team, the league and much, much more...he then answered questions which included his stay in the N.F.L...which he says was a wonderful experience and has given him the experience necessary to truly appreciate his current assignment. A great coach..a great talk DUSTIN PLUNKETT - GLOBAL MINISTER OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS WOWED THE CLUB:
For many years the club has been an avid supporter of the Special Olympics cause.....begun during the presidency of Keith Cordes, our support has involved not only monetary ($ 2,500 donation at the Sports Banquet)..time and other areas........and the speech from Dustin showed that it's a wonderful investment. Selected as only 1 of 12 in the WORLD, Dustin told us of being born with a clef palet..how he rec'd aid in overcoming this affliction and how he was introduced to Special Olympics..his initial hesitancy and once he was participating how wonderful it was to "be with folks that talked like me...acted like me and accepted me for simply being me!"...He continued on with information on his duties...those of traveling the world in support of S.O.B.....of working with Rafer Johnson and traveling to China (Shanghai) to speak in front of 6,000 special Olympians......a wonderful example of what can be done through the efforts of many.....a great "return on our investment" for the club. You could hear a pin drop during his talk......shown with our President and his speech counselor...Dustin wowed the crowd....

STEVE VENT - MANAGER AND PRESIDENT OF THE BELMONT SHORE RUGBY TO ADDRESS CLUB:
Come on out and learn all you ever wanted to know about Rugby......it ain't football and it ain't soccer......probably the most tasking sport around with a local team that continues to vie for National Championships...with players well into their "mid-years"....(and we mean "mid-years")....a terrific evening..
L.B.C.C. GOLF COACHES-
Yet another double - header evening the club will hear from both the Women's and Men's Golf Coaches at City College. Some of you may be aware that the Women's Coach - Kelly Warnimont is in her 3rd season and in 2005 (her first) she coached Pam Arjayarutt to the individual State Championship! She will be joined by someone that many of you have know for the past 4-5 decades.......with the resignation of former golf coach Mike Rae who left to assume a similar position with Saddleback College (right next to his home etc, etc)....Athletic Director (and fellow member) Larry Reisbig "made the call" to the former coach.....dare we say it....Coach Paul Chafe - who guided the Vikings to several championships (including a bunch of state championships) during the 80's and 90's and then went on to retire. For those of you with really, really good memories.....Paul was also an Assistant Football Coach under Coach (and fellow member) Jim Stangeland in the early 60's...soooo, we're not quite certain as to the exact number....we're assured Coach Chafe has served L.B.C.C. during at least the past 5 decades.....and possibly 6...!!!!! Now we've got talent and experience at the helms of the two programs....come on out and get "some tips on how to eliminate the yips!!!!"

MAURICIO INGRASSIA SPEAKS TO CLUB - INTRODUCES HIS FRESHMAN CLASS:
Coach Ingrassia made his fall appearance speaking to the club and introducing his freshman class of players...all of the players had a chance to speak to the club and a grand job they did.....a set of twins, an athlete that had her jesey retired from her High School and others filled the club in on their asperations for the upcoming year. coming off a pair of 5-0 wins over Bakersfield and Azusa Pacific (5-0 wins in soccer are like games in baseball where the winning pitcher ends up throwing a 9 inning shut-out.....or in football with a team posting a 55-0 score..!!)....heading into the week-end match with Utah...where they kept their perfect "score" in tact by beating the Utes in overtime with a score of 1-0. That puts the 49ers 3-0 and unscored upon.....a great start for a great team...!!!! (pictures to follow....) One of the most respected coaches in the southland, Mauricio will be joining us Tuesday evening to fill us in on his season....as his season has already started. Mauricio, who won a national championship at L.B.C.C. has re-invigorated the 49er program and promises to take us back into the n.c.a.a. contenders "rarified air". Always great to hear from the coach...truly a good guy and a terrific representative for the University....!!!!!
L.B.C.C. SOFTBALL COACHES ADDRESS THE CLUB:
Melissa Angel and Jack "The Ghost" Hutchinson gave a terrific talk ... jack brought us up to speed as to the recent history of l.b.c.c. softball....wherein the program was given a "shot in the arm" about 7-8 years ago and recently has seen a resurrgence and promising upturn. Angel gave us a run-down (pardon the pun) on the upcoming season and both answered questions from the crowd. A great talk by two terrific coaches.
DAVE BENEDICT - SR. ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TO ADDRESS THE CLUB TONIGHT:
Settling in on his new assignment (Dave joined A.D. (and fellow member) Vic Cegles the week we re-joined the other 64 N.C.A.A. basketball teams in pursuit of a championship in March and has hit the floor running. As the #2 guy in the athletic department Dave will be coordinating a whole lot of activities...he filled us in on the manner in which booster clubs will be folded into the main "giving" programs at the university's athletic department and how it will not only benefit the department and allow them to both coordinate and provide better service/communication to all.....it will allow a "consolidation" of the donor's contributions to various entities.....sounds like a good plan that will evolve over the coming year. Also, Dave JOINED THE CLUB....so, of course, we no longer have to be nice to him...welcome to Dave Benedict...!!!!
DORIAN "THE HAMMER" ATHONY WILL DISPLAY HIS GOLDEN GLOVE CHAMPIONSHIP BELT TONIGHT:
Back from the Golden Glove wars, "the hammer" will be displaying his championship belt....pictures of you and the belt will be taken so you can really, really impress that sensitive companion of yours that really thinks and believes that you are a champion...you gotta see this to believe it....!!!!!!

BOB SEAGREN WOWS THE CLUB - AND THEN JOINS!!
Bob Seagren, Olympic Athlete and coordinator of the Long Beach Marathon addressed the club last Tuesday and really, really kept everyone spellbound in their seats....
He updated us on the L.B. Marathon...and then informed us as to just how he began his pole-vaulting career..........seems his older brother brought home a "POLE" and they decided to see if they could vault the entire block without touching the ground.....how do you do that....you "vault" onto your neighbors' garages, homes etc....seemed to work out fine for the Seagren brothers....not quite the same for their parents who were greeted by a block of home owners complaining about the "thuds" on their roofs.....(minor problem...)
anyway...from there bob's career "took off" and actually set a state record as a Junior in High school.....when he was a senior he was surpassed by 2 sophmores and "woke him up"....he got a coach....got a scholarship and went on to appear in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics where he won the Gold....having hit (I'm not certain..but recall it was 17' 6") with two others.....and won the gold on the fewest misses.......great stories about the '69 and '72 Olympics.....held the group in their seats past 7:30 p.m. without a butt stirring....great night.......................
and then.....He joined the club....bringing our Olympic compliment to past 6 members...(more in the future...!!!!)
MISTY MAY WINS (so, this is a surpise) LATEST TOURNAMENT....!!!!!
Misty won her 4th tournament in a row at Manhattan Beach yesterday...we've run out of fingers and tows to count just how many...we think....84 as a pro.....+/-....
every time Misty wins in the future ...we're gonna go into the "archives" and "dig" out some photos of the old guys with either her or the gold medal she won....
Congratulations to our "Golden Girl".....
